Case Study

SIEMENS
Intercity-Express 4

DEUTSCHE BAHN AG

High-speed travelling

with Angelina Jolie.

The latest generation of the Intercity-Express (ICE) high-speed trains for long-distance passenger traffic. Siemens Mobility was commissioned with the development and construction in 2011. The trains are multiple units for passenger services. Unlike the first two ICE classes, they are driven by several separately driven cars distributed over the length of the train. Deutsche Bahn for the first time displayed a 1:1 model of a part of the ICE-4 end car at the InnoTrans 2012. The design was jointly developed by Deutsche Bahn, Bombardier and Siemens, and won the Red Dot Design award in 2015 as well as the German Design Award in 2016. Due to its front design, the train is internally called “Angelina Jolie”. The very high speeds achieved by the IC trains require highest levels of precision and safety. And we are exactly the right partner to meet these requirements.
